Maximalism, Dopamine, Pops of colour – whatever you call it, colour is still in, and will remain a hot trend into 2026. We’re talking coloured radiators, drenching ceilings down to skirting boards, clashing drapes and blinds and the return of the coloured bed sheet.
The richness of colour was really apparent in this year’s WOW!House at Chelsea Design Harbour. When I visited this summer one of my key takeaways was the skill from the designers that married such deep, rich colour with natural patterns found in organic materials like marble and rattan. Drummonds and Nicola Harding’s powder room was a decadent example of luxury created from richness.

UGC accessibility
I’ve recently set up my own TikTok to firstly get to grips of the intricacies of the algorithm, but to also broaden my understanding and access to the test-and-learn activity of brands on the platform. What’s become clear is the use of micro and UGC accounts for content. Something we first saw in the beauty industry, home and garden is now growing hugely on TikTok. TikTok shop access could be the make or break of small ticket items this Black Friday. We expect the content served across TikTok and Instagram will be bigger than ever this year with the incredibly easy route to purchase being created for customers.
Light the way At a recent Future Publishing event I went to, the editorial team said lighting is having a huge moment with their readers with content on this up by 37%. These easy home updates span audiences ranging from students, right up to empty nesters, creating huge opportunity for retailers. Specifically, searches for rechargeable lights are up 35% in the past year. The desire for these do-it-in-an-evening projects span a huge part of the ‘cosy content’ tags on TikTok – of which there are over 500,000 tags. Future have since launched a new channel aimed specifically at renters and Gen Z looking for affordable, fun home updates – Rooms.hq.
