Everyone knows how proud we are of being from Leeds. If you didn’t know already, we’re based in the Holbeck Urban Village, a hub for creative and digital businesses in the City. But what you might not know is that it’s only a stone’s through from Leeds’ red light zone.
We always champion community and we believe it’s important to support the local area, more importantly – those we work and live amongst who aren’t as fortunate as we are. That’s why we’ve chosen to support Basis Yorkshire with a step challenge. Basis Yorkshire empowers women and young people to stay safe and make positive choices. They are a specialist voluntary organisation that works specifically with sex-workers (indoor and street-based ) in Leeds and with young people who are being sexually exploited or who have experienced this in the past across Yorkshire.Our target it 10,000 steps a day (6 million in total) and as much as we can raise for our charity!
How Basis Work
Basis have six staff who provide evening outreach into the Managed Approach zone with a team of volunteers, providing additional 1-2-1 intensive support for 60 women with complex needs, ensuring that women can access the services they need. The team provide crisis support, sexual health services, safety advice, drop in, welfare support and harm reduction, along with a dedicated specialist sexual and domestic violence worker who supports women experiencing abuse and exploitation. Basis also provide group work and other activities, with the aim of enabling women to work more safely and transition from street sex work.
