With the year coming to a close, Sophie Gilbert, Boutique’s Home & Garden industry trends expert, shares what’s bubbling up in the new year.
Now that autumn and Black Friday are out the way, everything home and garden is either Christmas or 2026 trends. And with that in mind, we’re seeing a lot of stunning statement kitchen islands; particularly, tiled kitchen islands which add texture, colour and a reflective surface that bounces light around the room. These are really impactful when the island is completely tiled in the same colour, striking a balance between retro and contemporary.
‘A Ralph Lauren Christmas’ has been one of the biggest break out trends I’ve seen on TikTok interiors this month with over 12,000 tags in the last two weeks. Complete with tartan ribbons, rich greens, layered wintery foliage and neutral creams, this trend is synonymous with tradition and nostalgia – quite the opposite of minimalism.
Contrary to this, ‘Moody decor’ has increased in search by 27% this year according to Glimpse. Breakout trends from this include maximalism, wall art, boho, vintage and dark bedrooms. Plus.. shabby chic.. are we seeing its return?

The long awaited Soho House Manchester opened at the end of November and the interiors reveal did not disappoint. Plush velvet, boucle, leather and natural stone adorn a series of lounges, bars and a main restaurant all in the trending earthy colours of the moment. Artwork was curated by Kate Bryan with a focus on Mancunian artists.
In contrast, Pantone’s 2025 colour of the year – an off shade of white – lacks the personality, warmth and playfulness we’ve seen across fashion and interiors this year. Its rational of ‘wiping the slate clean’ I fear abruptly pulls any excitement or interpretation that we usually see. At least white goes with everything and transcends most trends…I guess?
