Perhaps the biggest news to kick off the new year was the launch of Performance Max shopping campaigns on Google Ads. Smart shopping and local campaigns will be replaced by the new campaign type, and roll out will be completed by Q3 2022. The roll out begins with the replacement of existing smart shopping campaigns, whilst local campaigns will be eligible for upgrade from July.

Pinterest continues to attempt to revitalise traffic numbers to its platform with the roll out of new Idea Pins. After a steep rise in users during the pandemic, Pinterest has seen growth stunted significantly, and improvements have been top priority in order to re-engage what was a booming market for the platform. This includes a new feature that allows users to showcase their best ideas and create a narrative behind inspirations. Pinterest has confirmed that the new Highlights feature is in the process of being rolled out to all users, with up to 6 highlights per profile.
