LEVEL UP: BING WEBMASTER TOOLS GET FANCY

Fair play to Bing. It sounds like they’re really upping their game at the moment, especially with their Webmaster Tools platform. Some industry bods have really rated it, and it feels like I’m always here talking about new features they’re bringing out. They’ve updated their robots.txt tester, allowing site owners and SEOs to see how BingBot sees their content. Find out more here

 The platform can now tell you:

  • Number of pages scanned
  • Number of errors
  • Number of warnings
  • Issues found (the severity of the issues and the number of pages affected).

HOW CONVENIENT: GOOGLE COMBINES SEARCH CONSOLE & ANALYTICS DATA IN ONE PLACE

They’ve announced that they’re testing a way to combine data from Search Console and Analytics in one report. It’s a few weeks away, but some users have been selected for trial. The integration means that you’ll be able to find correlations between activity on site and activity in SERPs, you can learn more about it here

SIZE MATTERS: GOOGLE TESTS LARGER FONT FOR THE FIRST HEADLINE ON ADS

Whether it’s just for the first ad, the top ads or all ads on the page, or even whether this test might be worth it all, this could mean a higher click through rate! Google often keeps its juicy features for the first ad to make it more desirable and more competitive. Find out more here

LOCKED DOWN: GOOGLE BANS SPYING PRODUCTS AND SOFTWARE

As an update to the Enabling Dishonest Behavior Policy, Google has specifed that spyware and tech used for “intimate partner surveillance” will be prohibited. This includes software that monitors text, phone calls and internet browsing. Read more about it here

TELEVISING THE TREND: IS TIKTOK COMING TO TV?

Earlier this year, TikTok ran an ad campaign… and now it’s launching on Amazon Fire TV with an app that will broadcast popular videos and interviews with creators. Their Head of Global Marketing Nick Tran said “We’ve been thinking through what the adoption of streaming devices like Fire TV means for connecting with our users and how we can offer them more dynamic experiences, and we feel bringing our content to the TV to some extent is a natural next step.” You can learn more about it here

A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME: TWITTER SURVEYS USERS ON SUBSCRIPTION OPTIONS

Including auto responses, undo send, custom colours, social listening, badges, and more. They’ve also queried users about a no-ad version. This comes as Twitter suffers a decline in advertising revenue. “We want to make sure any new line of revenue is complementary to our advertising business,” CEO Jack Dorsey said. “We do think there is a world where subscription is complementary, where commerce is complementary, where helping people manage paywalls … we think is complementary.” You can find out more here
