SETTING THE STANDARD: INSTAGRAM LAUNCHES USE OF PRONOUNS ON PROFILES

Instagram is boosting its gender diversity and inclusivity offering with the roll out of pronouns on profiles. Users will be able to display up to 4 pronouns from a choice of just over 40, which will appear next to profile names. Whilst bios can be added to the majority of social profiles, this feature has a dedicated space. You can learn more about it here

CASHING IN: TIKTOK BOOSTINT ECOMMERCE STRATEGY OFFERING

TikTok is working to establish stronger monetization processes for its short-form video content, in order to capitalize on its massive potential, and provide more motivation to keep its top users posting to the app, as opposed to moving on to more lucrative pastures. As reported by Bloomberg, TikTok is currently in the process of evolving its in-stream shopping tools, with a new test of product listings on profiles for some businesses in Europe. ALONG FOR THE RIDE: GOOGLE PAGE EXPERIENCE UPDATE SET TO LAND ON DESKTOP

Google product manager Jeffrey Jose has announced that the page experience update will also be rolled out on desktop. Speaking on his Google I/O talk, he said  “While we’re launching page experience on mobile soon, we believe page experience is critical no matter the surface the user is browsing the web. This is why we’re working hard on bringing page experience ranking to desktop.” Learn more about the new update here

NOTHING TO SEE HERE: FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM ROLL OUT OPTION TO HIDE POST LIKES

After previously testing this feature back in 2019, Facebook and Instagram have finally gone ahead with the roll out of the option to hide likes on posts. With a goal of depressurising the experience for its users, this feature is designed to help the younger generation particularly, who Facebook say can often face anxiety and embarrassment around their posts if they didn’t receive enough Likes to be considered “popular.” Learn more about it here
