PICK ME UP: STARBUCKS DELIVER AN INSPIRING AND UPLIFTING ADVERT OF TRANSGENDER POSITIVITY

Starbucks were awarded the Channel 4 ‘Diversity In Advertising’ award for their #whatsyourname campaign. The advert follows a transgender man exploring his new identity. It begins with him being addressed by his birthname Jemma and closes with him ordering a drink at Starbucks by his new name, James. The campaign from advertising company Iris is in association with UK-based LGBTQ+ charity Mermaids, and it showcases Starbucks’ mission to “inspire and nurture the human spirit; one person, one cup and one neighbourhood at a time.”

NO FILTER: SNAPCHAT ASK THEIR USERS TO OPEN UP MORE WITH NEW ‘HERE FOR YOU’ FEATURE

Snapchat have announced that in the next few months they will be introducing a new feature to their app. ‘Here For You’ will provide those suffering with mental health issues “pro-active in-app support.” The aim is to help users express themselves freely, offering guidance for those that suffer from anxiety and depression in the form of safety resources and their first ever ‘snappable’ quiz.

MOULD DIGGER: FAST FOOD CHAIN BURGER KING RELEASE MOULDY WHOPPER VIDEO

Burger King released a video of their famous ‘Whopper’ burger, only this time rather than being displayed in pristine condition, it is shown decaying and turning mouldy. The fast food chain are trying to draw people to the fact that they are moving away from preservatives and artificial flavourings, which they have been criticised for using in the past. SUPERMARKET SWEEP: TESCO INCREASE THEIR DIVERSITY WHILST LIDL HELP THE ENVIRONMENT

Tesco announced their brand-new range of plasters this month, they’re thought to be the first UK supermarket to release three different skin tone colours in a bid to make a difference. In other news, Lidl are now packaging their fish in plastic that was already on its way to the ocean. As much as 90% of plastic packaging reaches the coastlines of south-east Asia, so the idea is for the plastic to be recycled before it reaches the sea.
